About Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent was one of the defining fashion designers of the twentieth century. After becoming artistic director of Christian Dior at only 21, he later established his own couture house with Pierre Bergé in 1961. His designs helped transform women’s fashion through an influential combination of couture craftsmanship and modern, increasingly liberated silhouettes.
Saint Laurent became particularly celebrated for designs that challenged conventional distinctions between masculine and feminine dressing. Among his most famous creations was Le Smoking, the women’s tuxedo introduced in 1966. His work also drew extensively upon art, culture and travel, helping establish a visual language that remains influential in fashion today.
Did You Know?
Yves Saint Laurent was just 21 years old when he succeeded Christian Dior as head designer of the Dior fashion house in 1957. Only a few years later, he and Pierre Bergé established the Yves Saint Laurent couture house.
In 1966, Saint Laurent opened Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, helping make designer fashion more accessible through ready-to-wear. The same period produced Le Smoking, his revolutionary tuxedo for women — a design that became one of the enduring symbols of twentieth-century fashion.
Why Collect This Yves Saint Laurent Print?
The Yves Saint Laurent Midnight Blue Heels print combines fashion history with an unusually striking colour composition. Midnight blue contrasted with sky blue and white makes this one of the more graphically distinctive shoe portraits in the Imelda Marcos collection.
For admirers of Yves Saint Laurent, designer footwear and fashion-inspired art, the print offers something considerably more unusual than a conventional fashion photograph. It records an individual shoe from one of the world’s most famous shoe collections through A. J. Green’s original oil painting.
