Manila stands at the centre of the Philippines’ street-child crisis, with thousands of vulnerable children depending on its streets for shelter, food and survival.
Some sleep beneath bridges and highways, in makeshift shelters, abandoned spaces and other dangerous environments, exposed to hunger, disease, violence and exploitation.
But Manila represents only part of a much larger humanitarian problem. Across the Philippines, hundreds of thousands of children are estimated to be street-connected or homeless, with poverty, family breakdown, economic hardship and natural disasters increasing their vulnerability. For many, secure accommodation, nutritious food, healthcare and education remain desperately needed.
